3 companies and 2 research institutes gathered in the headquarters of AJINEXTEK in Mar. 20, and signed an MOU on conducting research and development of collaborative transfer robot to commercialize smart factory.

Companies and research institutes signing the MOU were 3 robot-related companies from Korea, Japan and the U.S., such as YASKAWA ELECTRIC Korea, Vecna Technologies, and AJINEXTEK, and 2 domestic research institutes, including Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science & Technology (DGIST, Convergence Research Center for Collaborative Robots) and Daegu Mechatronics & Materials Institute (DMI).

In particular, YASKAWA ELECTRIC, a Japanese company, ranks the top in making manufacturing purposed robots in the world, Vecna Technologies, located in Boston, the U.S. specializes in transfer robot, and AJINEXTEK which has developed chips for motion control for the first time in Korea only 70,000 companies in the world hold, has a source technology of motion control.

When it comes to the research institutes, DGIST and DMI have the global R&D capabilities in the robot area.

This MOU is not just about cooperation about technologies but contains business cooperation, so roles of all the participants are assigned by considering their own specialization to maximize synergy effect. When it comes to robot arms, YASKAWA ELECTRIC with the best technology in the relevant field will take on, for transfer robot, Vecna Technologies will, and for controller and control solutions controlling both robot arm and transfer robot, AJINEXTEK will. DIGIST and DMI will take roles in refining techniques of collaborative transfer robots and proliferating its technologies to local robot specializing companies respectively. Based on this systematic cooperation system, commercialization of technologies will be coming in the near future than being expected.
